KEV Group, A Serent Portfolio Company, Announces Acquisition of Lunchbox Orders

October 16, 2020

KEV Group, backed by Serent Capital, has acquired Lunchbox Orders, an online ordering platform that enables schools to manage student lunch programs used for fundraising, allowing parents to order and pay for lunches directly online via a paperless, cashless transaction. The acquisition bolsters KEV Group’s existing suite of solutions, enabling the company to expand its core offerings and provide additional value to both current and future school customers.

KEV Group has provided school activity fund management software solutions to more than 17,500 schools across North America since 1996. The company’s cloud-based SchoolCash platform fully integrates online payments, fee management, lunch, school-level accounting, and digital forms, managing over $3 billion (CAD) in school generated funds annually. This acquisition expands KEV Group’s capabilities further into lunch management and fundraising, ensuring schools have the most comprehensive, secure and efficient management of their school activity funds possible. Lunchbox Orders, founded in 2014, serves over 400 schools and provides healthy school lunches to students while benefitting school fundraising programs.

“Our acquisition of Lunchbox Orders gives us an opportunity to deliver additional value to our existing clients while expanding the Lunchbox Orders service across Ontario and beyond,” commented Bram Belzberg, Chairman & CEO of KEV Group. “We’re particularly excited about the fundraising component which gives schools an incredibly easy way to substantially advance their fundraising efforts. This, coupled with the enhancements we’re currently making to the Lunchbox Orders platform, will provide further efficiency gains and increased convenience to our K-12 school community. Most importantly, it allows school personnel to focus their efforts on student learning and achievement.”

Melissa Roberts, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Lunchbox Orders said, “We’re thrilled to be joining KEV Group. Together with KEV, we’re excited about the opportunity to expand our reach with schools across Ontario and beyond. Our companies are incredibly aligned and have a shared focus on offering an exceptional customer experience to schools and parents which makes this a great match.”

“Since our initial investment, KEV Group has nearly doubled its school customer base, continued to innovate on its product offerings, and has made significant investments behind R&D and customer support to deliver even more value to its school customers. Strategic acquisitions form a core tenet of KEV’s growth plan and this acquisition is a great example of expanding KEV’s suite of solutions with a highly complementary offering to better serve administrators, teachers, parents, and students,” said Kevin Frick, Partner at Serent Capital.

The acquisition of Lunchbox Orders continues Serent’s active investment efforts in the education sector, with 12 investments across the K12 and higher-education markets to date. Prior Serent education investments include Education Galaxy (2020), FamilyID (2020), Visual Schedule Builder (2019), new|ed (2019), TRA (2018), KEV Group (2018), USATestprep (2018), ArbiterSports (2017), Digital Architecture (2016), Diamond Mind (2014), and C2 Education (2011).
